Seal of the USS Department of Defence. Not as good as it could be; the gradient work is rather simplistic and just kind of approximates a light source. I think the overall design is solid though. Eight planets, eight stars, eight lightning bolts. The design was somewhat inspired by Mass Effect's medals, the symbol of the United Nations, and the general layout of various United States government Department seals. Orbital configuration should broadly match 12:00 UTC, June 11, 2249: Unification Day. The planets were cobbled together from various sources: I wanted all polar views, but didn't wait around to come up with solutions.

Put together in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and tweaked with Adobe Photoshop CS4.
